Pre & Post Natal
Relives many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, as well as, improving circulation & mobility.
Happy Mommy = Happy Baby
Prenatal massage is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness.
A pregnant women’s body is in a state of constant change, therefore, every session is tailored specifically to individual needs.
Pregnancy massage relaxes your ligaments, allowing more pelvic mobility for your growing baby. However, carrying a baby changes your center of gravity, putting additional stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. This instability changes your posture and pulls your pelvis into a forward state, adding to that the extra weight of your baby: “you now have an achy lower back.”
Trained therapists know a pregnant woman's sore spots, and can provide the needed stress and/or tension relief to promote overall relaxation. Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of a traditional massage; relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and because it feels great. Though the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy vary from; an achy back, a stiff neck, cramps in your hips and/or legs, headaches and edema (or swelling). Pregnancy massage helps realign body weight and tones the skin over the belly.
Muscle tension on weight-bearing joints created by carrying the extra weight of a baby can be relieved by encouraging blood flow to the afflicted areas. This provides more nutrient-rich oxygen and also increases the flow of lymphatic fluid, which sweeps away toxins and metabolic waste. These hormonal changes help to relieve depression, anxiety and aid in better sleep.
Headaches can be relieved by focusing on the head, neck and shoulders by relaxing trigger points and muscle spasms.
Now, most women find lying on their tender, swollen breasts or flat on their back not sustainable. This is especially true the further you are in your pregnancy. In order to ensure your complete comfort we use cushions and/or bolsters to leverage proper weight distribution for you and your baby. Additionally we use the recommended side-lying position (esp. 3rd trimester) to help aid in proper circulation and alleviate the extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas.
Massage Felax therapists are thoroughly trained in the art of prenatal massage. But, be sure to communicate your expectations and mention areas which may require specific attention, or areas you would like us to avoid (a side from areas already contraindicated – not allowed).
Soon after delivery you can now feel comfortable giving that same healthy and healing touch to your baby. Massage is safe and can be an essential part of a smooth pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period.
