Imploring cycles of pressure and release within the isolation of tight muscle tissues from specific referral pains and patterns.
Restore & maintain movement.
The inside of the body is covered with soft tissue called fascia. This tissue covers every structure including organs, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. The fascia that covers your muscles is called myofascia. When the myofascia is stressed from overuse or trauma it can tear and adhere together. These adhesions are called "trigger points" and can prevent the muscles from working well.
A "trigger point" is a painful, irritated area within the muscle(s).
Trigger Point - aka - Neuromuscular Therapy (or) Myotherapy cause; muscle stiffness, tenderness, and a decrease in range-of-motion. In addition, the discomfort from trigger points can radiate from the adhesion causing pain throughout parts of the body. The pain can be sharp and intense or a dull ache.
Trigger point massage therapy is the utilization of quasi-static pressure on specific myofascial points designed to relieve pain. The technique of using isolated pressure and release manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system and to stimulate skeletal striated muscles. This helps to break the muscles spastic cycle.
In this type of massage the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.
Pressure can be applied with fingers, knuckles or elbows, and is often followed up with a few stretches helping to realign and elongate the muscle(s) fibers.
Benefits of Trigger Point Therapy
